Square Charge
Leading design from concept to production for Square's first-ever desktop app for MacOS.

Our highest growth customer segments using Virtual Terminal were using it paired with other software, but had to navigate our slow dashboard website to access it. The performance was slow, session length was short, and they didn't need most of the features of our full dashboard site.
I worked with my team to create a set of designs that cast a vision for a desktop product that had a companion menu bar app.

I teamed up with some of our developers during a hack week to see if we could make it work using only public facing APIs... and we built a functioning app.

GOAL 01
Refine the Virtual Terminal UI to only essential elements.
GOAL 02
Reduce friction for Virtual Terminal sellers to process payments faster.
GOAL 03
Support a keyboard based workflow for ultra fast payments.

Quick feedback
We wanted to ensure we were building the best experience for our customers, so we added an option within the app that sent an email directly to our product team for fast updates.

"I've never had such an efficient experience processing payments. I process nearly 200 payments and I am working my way through them more quickly than ever."
-Buffy, Trashy Women Rubbish Removal
"I have also been very happy with the app! It is a very convenient and simple way to charge without having to navigate the website"
-Maggie, California Women's Therapy
I worked with our creative team to provide creative direction for the app's marketing materials and public website, as well as motion design and video work for help articles.
